Reliable markers for parents and schools

Nargess Eskandari-Grünberg on the verdicts against exemption from lessons

In two decisions the Federal Administrative Court has permitted pupils to be excused from lessons on religious grounds only in exceptional cases.

"As Head of the Integration Department I welcome the fact that with these verdicts rulings were made, on which parents and schools can reliably orient themselves in the future," said Nargess Eskandari-Grünberg. "Integration means not excluding any child from the education on offer. In practice, parents were able in the past to discuss and resolve any concerns or worries in relation to their children's education in confidence with the parents' advisory council, teachers and/or school management. Through its decisions the Constitutional Court has reinforced the good partnership between parents and schools and the creation of equal opportunities."
